ESTAMPES is a quintet that plays original pieces influenced by classical music called “impressionist” (late 19th/early 20th century), by Jazz and Free music. Each piece, created by pianist and composer Mirko Maio, is a field where writing and improvisation intermingle, with nods to composers such as Ravel, Debussy, Stravinsky, and free electrons such as Andrew Hill or Cecil Taylor. The piano is very present because it serves as a guideline, and allows the composer to communicate his ideas to the other musicians.

Estampes is an interactive music that shapes imprints of time, space, colors and emotions, leaving dreamlike landscapes.

The atypical instrumentation, with an English horn, a bass clarinet and a rhythm section (piano/counter bass/drums), allows the creation of hybrid and timeless worlds.
